Line pressure pushes the ball against the downstream seat, creating a pressure-energized seal that tightens as pressure increases—eliminating the need for complex spring mechanisms.
This simple, proven design dominates smaller size applications (typically DN 15-150 / 1/2″-6″) where moderate pressures and temperatures prevail. The floating ball configuration minimizes operating torque compared to trunnion-mounted designs, enabling smaller manual operators or compact actuators critical for African offshore platforms with weight restrictions.
