Key Features & Applications

Aluminium Bronze 3 Piece Ball Valve Manufacturer  in Africa

Marine and corrosive-water systems often require a valve that can be dismantled without cutting the connected pipework. An Aluminium Bronze 3 Piece Ball Valve uses a removable centre body between two fixed end pieces, allowing inspection of the ball, seats and stem while the end connectors remain in the line. Aluminium bronze also provides good resistance to seawater, brine and chloride-bearing cooling water. African Valve is a leading Aluminium Bronze 3 Piece Ball Valve Manufacturer  in Africa, supplying Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and Ghana, with export support for the Middle East, Europe and other marine and industrial markets.

Why Is the Three-Piece Body Useful?

The valve body is divided into two end connectors and a central pressure-containing section. During maintenance, the body bolts are removed and the middle section can be lifted out once the line is isolated and depressurized. This arrangement reduces repair time in welded or fixed piping systems because the pipe ends do not have to be disturbed.

Three-piece construction also allows the seats, body seals and ball to be replaced separately. The body joint must still be tightened in the correct sequence and to the specified torque; uneven bolting can distort the body or create leakage across the joint.

Ball, Stem and Seat Arrangement

The ball rotates through 90 degrees between the open and closed positions. In a floating-ball design, line pressure moves the ball slightly toward the downstream seat, increasing sealing contact. Full-bore versions create a flow opening close to the pipe inside diameter, while reduced-bore valves use a smaller passage to lower body size and operating torque.

The stem is generally inserted from inside the body, helping prevent pressure-driven ejection. Depending on the design specification, anti-static contacts can maintain electrical continuity between the ball, stem and body. An ISO 5211 mounting pad may be provided for direct installation of an electric or pneumatic actuator.

Why Aluminium Bronze Is Chosen

Cast pressure parts are commonly produced from ASTM B148 C95800 or C95500. These nickel-aluminium bronze grades develop a protective oxide film and are widely used in seawater, brine and marine cooling systems. They also offer useful resistance to cavitation and erosion where flow velocity is properly controlled.

The ball, stem and fasteners must be selected as a complete material system. In seawater service, an unsuitable combination can create galvanic corrosion even when the valve body itself is corrosion resistant.

PTFE and reinforced PTFE seats suit many clean water and chemical duties. PEEK or metal seats may be considered where pressure, temperature, solids or frequent cycling exceed the limits of standard soft seats.

Practical Design Benefits

  • Removable centre body supports in-line maintenance.

  • Quarter-turn movement provides fast isolation.

  • Full-bore options reduce pressure loss.

  • Blow-out-resistant stem construction improves pressure safety.

  • Aluminium bronze pressure parts suit seawater and brine systems.

  • Fire-safe construction may be supplied when tested to API 607.

Typical Service

The valve is used in shipbuilding, offshore platforms, seawater cooling, ballast systems, desalination plants, firewater networks and marine utility lines. It can also be selected for chloride-bearing industrial water where carbon steel or standard stainless steel may have limited service life.

Project Configuration and Documentation

African Valve can supply the valve with project-specific bore, seat material, flange drilling, stem packing and actuator arrangement. Material Test Certificates, pressure-test reports, dimensional records, PMI results and inspection documentation can be provided according to EPC or end-user requirements.
