During operation, the valve stays tightly shut because the spring force keeps the disc pressed hard against the seat. However, as soon as the pressure rises to the preset value, the upward force on the disc overcomes the compression from the spring, thus resulting in a full opening of the valve in an extremely short lift. Such quick opening allows the valve to efficiently vent off large quantities of gas or steam. When the pressure drops below the blowoff pressure, the spring resets the disc back to the seat. The valve is manufactured with a body, nozzle, spring chamber, bonnet, spindle, disc, guide, and adjustment assembly. The spring is accurately calibrated to achieve the required opening pressure, while the nozzle and guide arrangement promotes stable full-lift performance. Depending on service conditions, the valve may be supplied with open bonnet or closed bonnet construction, lifting lever arrangements for periodic testing, balanced bellows for applications with back pressure, and soft or metal seat configurations.
