Technical Specifications

Key Features & Applications

High-pressure seawater injection, chemical dosing and produced-water systems place heavy loads on the body, seats and stem while exposing them to severe chloride conditions. A Super Duplex ball valve combines high mechanical strength with corrosion resistance for this demanding service. African Valve is a leading Super Duplex High Pressure Ball Valve Manufacturer in Africa, supplying South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, wider African markets and international projects.

High-Pressure Ball Construction

Smaller valves may use a floating ball, while larger sizes and higher differential pressures normally use a trunnion-supported arrangement. In a floating valve, line pressure moves the ball toward the downstream seat. In a trunnion valve, the ball is supported and spring-energised seats move toward it.
The body may be two-piece, three-piece, side-entry or top-entry. The final arrangement depends on pressure class, size, maintenance access and end connections. Full-bore construction is preferred where pressure loss, cleaning or pig passage matters.

Super Duplex Pressure Parts

Forged bodies may use ASTM A182 F53 or F55, while cast bodies may use ASTM A995 Grade 5A. The ball, stem, trunnions, seat retainers and exposed springs should use compatible Super Duplex material or another approved corrosion-resistant alloy.
The alloy offers high strength and strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking. Pressure rating still depends on the valve design, wall thickness, temperature and seat system. Material strength should not be used as a substitute for code calculations.

Seat, Stem and Cavity Protection

RPTFE and PEEK are common seat choices for high-pressure clean service. PEEK provides better load resistance where standard PTFE may deform. Metal seats are considered for abrasive particles, high temperature or severe cycling.
Depending on the design, the stem may be inserted from inside the body to resist pressure-driven ejection. Fire-tested construction, anti-static continuity and cavity-pressure relief may be included. Trunnion designs can also provide double-block-and-bleed arrangements when the seat geometry supports it.

Pressure and Torque Considerations

High differential pressure increases seat load and breakaway torque. The actuator should be sized from maximum differential pressure, seat friction, temperature and expected deposits rather than nominal valve size.
Fluid trapped in the body cavity can expand when heated after isolation. A documented relief path should be provided where thermal expansion is possible. For automated valves, the actuator and gearbox should be checked for the maximum seating torque and required safety factor.

Industrial Applications

Super Duplex high-pressure ball valves are used in seawater injection, high-pressure desalination circuits, offshore chemical injection, produced-water systems and selected oil and gas lines. Sour service may require NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 review.

Manufacturing and Inspection

Forging or casting records, MTCs, PMI and ferrite checks establish material control. NDT, dimensional inspection, shell testing, seat testing, cavity-relief checks and actuator functional tests may be specified. High-pressure end connections and wall thickness receive particular attention.

High-Pressure Valve Supply

African Valve supplies Super Duplex high-pressure ball valves for offshore, marine and process projects across Africa. The enquiry should include fluid chemistry, pressure, temperature, ball support design, seat material, bore, end connections, cavity relief, actuator and inspection requirements.
