Super Duplex Lug Butterfly Valve
High Performance • Durable • Leak Proof
Super Duplex Lug Butterfly Valve Manufacturer in Africa for corrosion-resistant industrial flow control.

Key Features & Applications
Large seawater and chloride-bearing pipelines often need a compact valve that can be bolted independently to each flange. A lugged Super Duplex butterfly valve combines quarter-turn operation with corrosion-resistant body, disc and shaft materials. African Valve is a leading Super Duplex Lug Butterfly Valve Manufacturer in Africa, supplying South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, other African markets and international projects.
Lug Body and Disc Movement
Threaded lugs are arranged around the valve body so each pipeline flange is bolted separately. The disc rotates through 90 degrees to open or close the line. This arrangement is useful near pumps, strainers and removable pipe sections where independent bolting simplifies maintenance.
The lug body should not automatically be treated as suitable for retaining full pressure with one flange removed. That condition requires a documented one-sided isolation rating, which may depend on direction, size and seat design.
Super Duplex Material System
Cast bodies and discs may use ASTM A995 Grade 5A, while shafts, pins and wrought components may use ASTM A182 F53 or F55. The body, disc, shaft, taper pins and retainers should be reviewed as one wetted assembly.
Super Duplex provides high strength and strong resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking. Heat treatment, ferrite balance and surface condition still affect performance, especially in warm seawater or concentrated brine.
Offset and Seat Selection
Concentric valves use resilient or fluoropolymer seats and suit moderate-temperature water and chemical service. Double-offset construction reduces seat rubbing during opening. Triple-offset valves use metal sealing geometry for higher temperature, frequent cycling or demanding shutoff.
The offset type and seat material should be selected separately from the body alloy. A Super Duplex body does not automatically make a resilient seat suitable for high temperature or abrasive service.

Flange and Torque Checks
The flange inside diameter and adjoining pipe bore must provide enough clearance for the disc. Incorrect bore geometry can obstruct movement or damage the seat.
Actuator torque depends on size, differential pressure, seat type and temperature. Maximum seating and unseating torque should be used when selecting manual or automated operation. The shaft connection and ISO 5211 mounting dimensions should be confirmed when an existing actuator will be reused. External pipe loads should not be transferred through the valve body.
Industrial Applications
Super Duplex lug butterfly valves are used in seawater intake and injection, desalination, offshore firewater, marine cooling, produced-water treatment, brine circulation and chloride-bearing chemical systems. The lug arrangement is useful where connected equipment may be removed during planned maintenance.
Manufacturing and Inspection
MTC review, PMI and ferrite measurement verify the pressure parts and trim. Dimensional inspection checks lug drilling, face-to-face length and disc clearance. Hydrostatic shell and seat tests confirm pressure integrity and leakage, followed by operating-torque checks.
