Key Features & Applications
Offshore modules, desalination plants and critical chloride-bearing pipelines often need a valve that can be serviced without removing the complete pressure body from the line. A top-entry Super Duplex ball valve provides access through the cover while retaining high-strength corrosion-resistant parts. African Valve is a leading Super Duplex Top Entry Ball Valve Manufacturer in Africa, supplying South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, other African markets and international projects.
Top-Entry Maintenance Access
The valve uses a single main body with an upper cover through which the ball, seats and stem components can be removed. During planned maintenance, the pipeline body can remain installed after the system has been isolated, depressurised and drained.
This arrangement is useful where flanged removal is difficult or where the valve has butt-weld ends. Enough space must be left above the cover and actuator for lifting the internal assembly.
Ball Support and Sealing
Smaller designs may use a floating ball, while larger sizes and higher pressures generally use trunnion support. In a trunnion design, the ball rotates on bearings and spring-energised seats move toward the sealing surface.
PTFE and RPTFE seats suit many clean water and chemical duties. PEEK may be selected for higher pressure or temperature, while metal seats are considered for abrasive solids, high temperature or frequent cycling. Cavity-pressure relief, emergency sealant injection and double-block-and-bleed arrangements may be included depending on seat design.
Super Duplex Body and Trim
Cast bodies may use ASTM A995 Grade 5A, while forged balls, stems, trunnions and retainers may use ASTM A182 F53 or F55. The body, cover, ball, stem, seat carriers and exposed springs should be reviewed as one material system.
Super Duplex provides high strength and strong resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking. Heat treatment, ferrite balance, welding and surface condition remain important, particularly in warm seawater and stagnant body cavities.

Pressure and Cavity Control
Fluid trapped in the body cavity may expand when heated after the valve closes. A documented relief path should be provided where thermal expansion is possible.
Double-block-and-bleed performance depends on the exact seat arrangement and should be verified from the design. Full-bore valves may be specified for piggable lines, but bore continuity and pig passage should be confirmed separately.
Industrial Applications
Super Duplex top-entry ball valves are used in seawater injection, desalination, produced-water systems, offshore utilities, brine transfer and selected oil and gas pipelines. The top-entry arrangement suits critical lines where in-line access reduces shutdown work.
Manufacturing and Inspection
MTCs, PMI and ferrite checks confirm the body and trim. NDT may be required for the body, cover or welded areas. Dimensional inspection checks cover fit, ball alignment and end connections. Shell, seat, cavity-relief and actuator functional tests are performed according to the project.
