Key Features & Applications
Duplex Swing Check Valve Manufacturer in Africa
Pipelines carrying produced water, saline utilities or chloride-bearing chemicals need a check valve that can stop reverse flow without introducing excessive restriction during normal operation. Duplex stainless steel adds strength and corrosion resistance around the body, disc and hinge components. African Valve is a prominent Duplex Swing Check Valve Manufacturer in Africa, supplying South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, other African countries and export projects.
Swing Disc Working Principle
Forward flow lifts the hinged disc away from the seat. As velocity falls, gravity and reverse pressure return the disc toward the closed position. When fully open, the disc moves largely away from the main flow path, which can keep pressure loss comparatively low.
The disc travels through a wider arc than the plates in a dual plate check valve. During a rapid pump trip, reverse velocity may develop before closure and cause disc impact. The valve is therefore better suited to stable flow unless the system transient has been reviewed.
Duplex Materials and Hinge Construction
Cast bodies may use ASTM A995 Grade 4A, while forged or wrought hinge parts may use ASTM A182 F51 or compatible duplex grades. The body, cover, disc, hinge arm, pin and seat ring all require material review because the smaller internal parts may be exposed continuously to the process fluid. ASTM A995 covers duplex stainless-steel castings for pressure-containing parts, while ASTM A182 covers forged valve components.
Duplex material offers improved resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress-corrosion cracking compared with common austenitic stainless steel. Heat treatment, ferrite balance and crevice conditions remain important.
Seat, Cover and Orientation
Metal seats suit higher temperature and moderate contamination. Resilient or PTFE seats may provide tighter shutoff in clean water and chemical service, provided the seat is compatible with pressure and temperature.
A bolted cover gives access to the disc and hinge parts for inspection. Horizontal installation is common. Vertical upward flow may be permitted where the disc remains stable, while downward vertical installation should be avoided unless specifically qualified.

Flow Velocity and Valve Sizing
A swing check valve should be sized from actual operating flow. If the valve is oversized, the disc may remain partly open and move repeatedly, causing hinge wear, seat impact and vibration.
The normal flow, minimum flow and pump shutdown behaviour should be included in the enquiry. Disc stability is more important than matching pipe diameter alone.
Industrial Applications
Duplex swing check valves are used in desalination plants, produced-water systems, marine cooling lines, pulp and paper circuits, chemical processing and selected oil and gas utilities. Warm seawater or concentrated brine may require Super Duplex after a corrosion assessment.
Material certificates and PMI confirm the body, cover, disc and hinge components. Ferrite checks and NDT may be required by the project. Dimensional inspection covers end connections, disc clearance and hinge movement. Hydrostatic shell and seat tests verify pressure containment and reverse-flow shutoff. African Valve supplies duplex swing check valves for water, marine and industrial installations across Africa. The RFQ should include fluid composition, velocity, pressure, temperature, orientation, seat type, end connections and pump shutdown conditions.Inspection and Testing
