Water distribution networks require isolation valves that can remain in service for long periods while allowing sections of a pipeline to be shut down for repairs and maintenance. An AWWA Gate Valve provides this function through a vertically moving wedge that opens or closes the flow passage.
Resilient-seated designs use an elastomer-covered wedge to provide shutoff against the valve body. The valve is normally operated in a fully open or fully closed position, making it suitable for pipeline isolation rather than continuous flow regulation.
