Super Duplex 5A Swing Check Valve delivers high-strength, corrosion-resistant backflow prevention with robust design

Super Duplex 5A Swing Check Valve Manufacturer in Africa

Seawater, brine and produced-water lines need reverse-flow protection that can withstand both chloride attack and repeated disc movement. A swing check valve in ASTM A995 Grade 5A combines automatic closure with corrosion-resistant pressure parts. African Valve is a prominent Super Duplex 5A Swing Check Valve Manufacturer in Africa, supplying South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, other African countries and export projects.

Swing Disc Operation

Forward flow lifts the hinged disc away from the seat. As velocity decreases, gravity and reverse pressure move the disc back toward the closed position. When fully open, the disc remains largely outside the main flow passage, which can keep pressure loss comparatively low.
The disc travels through a wider arc than the plates in a dual plate check valve. During a sudden pump trip, reverse velocity may develop before closure and cause disc impact. Pump shutdown behaviour, line length and fluid velocity should therefore be reviewed during selection.

Grade 5A Body and Internal Parts

ASTM A995 Grade 5A is a cast Super Duplex stainless-steel grade used for pressure-containing components. It provides high strength and strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking. The cover, disc, hinge arm and seat may use Grade 5A, while the pin and other wrought components may use compatible F53 or F55 material.
The smaller internal parts need the same corrosion review as the body. A lower-alloy hinge pin or fastener can become the first point of attack. Heat treatment, ferrite balance and casting quality remain important, particularly in warm seawater or concentrated brine.

Seat, Cover and Installation

Metal seats suit higher temperature, moderate solids and repeated cycling. PTFE or resilient seats may provide lower leakage in clean water and chemical service, provided their pressure-temperature limits are suitable.
A bolted cover gives access to the disc and hinge components for inspection. Horizontal installation is common. Vertical upward flow may be permitted where the disc remains stable, while downward vertical installation should only be used when specifically approved.

Technical Specifications

Body Material: ASTM A995 Grade 5A
Disc Design: Hinged swing disc
Cover Design: Bolted or pressure seal
Seat Options: Metal, PTFE or resilient seat
Installation: Horizontal or vertical upward flow when approved

Flow Stability and Sizing

The valve should be selected from normal and minimum flow, not pipe size alone. An oversized valve may remain partly open and move repeatedly, causing hinge wear, seat impact and vibration. The flow rate needed to hold the disc stable is different from the pressure needed to start opening it.
For pump discharge lines, the shutdown curve and expected flow reversal should be included in the enquiry. Where rapid deceleration is expected, a spring-assisted or non-slam design may be more suitable.

Industrial Applications

Super Duplex 5A swing check valves are used in seawater intake and injection systems, desalination plants, offshore utilities, produced-water treatment, brine transfer, pulp and paper circuits and selected oil and gas lines. Sour service may require additional NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 review.

Manufacturing and Inspection

Casting certificates, heat-treatment records and PMI confirm the body and internal materials. Ferrite measurement and NDT may be specified for the body, cover or weld areas. Dimensional inspection checks end connections, disc clearance and hinge movement. Hydrostatic shell and seat tests verify pressure containment and reverse-flow shutoff.

Check Valve Supply Across Africa

African Valve supplies Super Duplex 5A swing check valves for marine, offshore and process projects across Africa. The RFQ should include fluid chemistry, chlorides, velocity, pressure, temperature, orientation, seat type, end connections and pump shutdown conditions.
