Key Features & Applications
Rapid isolation is often required on corrosive chemical lines where extended handwheel operation would be impractical. An Alloy 20 floating ball valve closes through a quarter-turn and uses process pressure to strengthen contact between the ball and downstream seat. The Alloy 20 body also withstands many sulphuric acid and chloride-containing fluids. African Valve is a prominent Alloy 20 Floating Ball Valve Manufacturer in Africa, serving Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and Ghana and supplying export projects in the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. The ball is not rigidly supported by upper and lower trunnions. Instead, it is retained between two seats and can move slightly along the pipeline axis. When pressure enters the closed valve, the ball shifts toward the downstream seat. This pressure-assisted contact produces the shutoff. The same action also increases operating torque as pressure and valve size rise. Floating ball valves are therefore most practical in small and medium sizes. Large-bore or high-pressure applications usually move to trunnion-mounted construction to prevent excessive seat loading. A full-bore valve has an opening close to the internal diameter of the adjoining pipe. It produces little flow restriction and may allow line-cleaning equipment to pass, provided the complete valve and pipeline have been designed for pigging.A reduced-bore valve uses a smaller ball opening. It requires less material and can reduce valve size and torque, but the restriction creates additional pressure loss. The correct choice depends on system hydraulics rather than valve cost alone. Two-piece and three-piece bodies are widely used. A three-piece arrangement is useful in welded piping because the centre body can be removed while the end connectors remain in place. The stem may be inserted from inside the body. Internal insertion prevents line pressure from forcing the stem outward. Depending on the project specification, an anti-static device can maintain electrical continuity between the ball, stem and body. Fire-safe construction may be tested to API 607. In such designs, secondary metal contact and controlled stem sealing help limit leakage after the polymer seats have been damaged by fire. Cast bodies may be ASTM A351 CN7M, while forged bodies are normally ASTM A182 F20. The alloy combines nickel, chromium, molybdenum and copper for resistance to sulphuric acid and several other chemical environments. PTFE is common for clean chemical isolation. Reinforced PTFE offers improved dimensional stability, and PEEK may be considered where pressure or temperature exceeds the range of standard PTFE. Seat selection must account for chemical attack, permeation and swelling. Size Range: DN15 to DN200 Quarter-turn movement provides fast shutoff. Line pressure assists downstream seat sealing. Full-bore construction limits pressure loss. Internally inserted stems resist pressure ejection. Three-piece bodies support easier in-line maintenance. Fire-safe and anti-static options are available when specified. The valve is used in sulphuric acid transfer, fertilizer plants, chemical injection packages, solvent systems, acid storage and chloride-bearing utility lines. It suits clean fluids better than services containing large abrasive particles, which can damage soft seats. Ball surface finish, seat dimensions, stem engagement and body-joint alignment are inspected before assembly. Shell and seat tests are performed in both required directions. Operating torque is checked through repeated cycling. PMI and MTC review can verify Alloy 20 material traceability.Alloy 20 Floating Ball Valve Manufacturer in Africa
