Engineering Design & Operation

The stem and seat are arranged at an angle to the pipeline, commonly around 45°. The disc still moves linearly toward and away from the seat, so the valve can be used for both regulation and shut-off.

The angled flow path makes the design particularly useful where pressure loss is an important consideration. Depending on the valve, the bonnet may be bolted or pressure sealed, with flanged, socket-weld or butt-weld ends.
